Text: Matthew 18:23-35
Matthew 18:23-35
We must forgive others continuously – without keeping track
Ephesians 4:32
What is the Kingdom of God?
It is the sphere of God’s rule and influence – the fulfillment of God’s will on earth.
Matthew 6:33
God will routinely call you into account for your life before you face the final Judgement Seat of Christ
2 Corinthians 5:10
We are offended and hurt by the mistreatment of others because we believe we don’t deserve them.
We are unable to forgive others because we have lost sight of how much we have been forgiven.
Matthew 18: 27-30
Are you like this governor?
We all want mercy when we offend others, but justice when others offend us.
God demands that we forgive others.
When we don’t forgive others:
We will not experience communion with God
We may experience God’s chastening until we show a willingness to forgive others
Matthew 18:31-35
You don’t forgive others for their sake – you forgive them for your own sake.
You forgive others to preserve your communion and relationship with God.
You forgive others to avoid God’s discipline.
You forgive others to preserve your sanity.
Isaiah 43:24-25
Psalms 103:12
Put the offense and hurt of your past behind you, for your own sake and for the sake of your relationship with God.
Part of the process of forgiving is also working to remove or mitigate the sting of the offense. You must stop ringing the bell that constantly reminds you of the hurt and offenses you have experienced.
Stop ringing the bell – Let it go!
You win your battle against bitterness:
