Regret!

“What is the biggest regret of your life?

The one thing you would change or do differently if you had a second chance?”

Restoration or Despair

Judas and Peter

Matthew 26:69 – 27:5
2 Corinthians 7:10

Judas experienced worldly sorrow (aka regret).

Peter experienced godly sorrow.

Worldly regret focuses on self and others.

—Godly regret focuses on God.

Worldly Regret leads to remorse.

Four ways we try to assuage our feelings of guilt and remorse:

—1. We rationalize the sinful decision, behavior or action

—2. We blame others

—3. We compare ourselves to others

—4. We distract ourselves

Judas focused on himself.

“God can take your mess and turn it into your message. He can take your trial and turn it into your testimony and triumph”

(Dave Stone, Pastor of Southeast Christian church).

Remorse leads to repentance.

Repentance is a change of mind about your sin and a turning back to God.

—Judas turned on himself.

—Peter turned toward Jesus.

Change your mind about your sin and turn toward God.

Repentance leads to redemption.

1 John 1:9
