“Winning your battle against Temptation”
Text
Matthew 4:1-11
Temptation!
The word Temptation in Greek (Peirazein) has two possible meanings:
An experiment, a trial to prove something
An enticement to commit evil
The Holy Spirit brought Jesus to the desert to be tempted – to prove two things:
Jesus is 100% human – His temptation was real
Jesus is 100% God – His temptation could never result in him sinning.
Satan tempts us when we are at our weakest state:
When we are isolated
When we are experiencing great physical or emotional needs
When we are unguarded
James 1:14-16
Temptation + Sin = Death
Genesis 3: 1-5
Strategies used by Jesus to defeat Satan’s temptations:
He had memorized the Word of God
He understood the Word of God
He applied the Word of God
He Prayed
He prioritized His relationship and Communion with God
How do you win the battle against temptation?
On your knees
In the Word
In community
In fellowship with God
