Meaning What is my life’s purpose?
Morality How do I determine what is right and wrong?
Destiny What happens to me after I die?

The Absence of Morality.

Morality plays five major roles in society:

Creates stability-keeping society from falling apart
Ameliorates human suffering
Promotes human flourishing
Resolves conflicts of interest in just and orderly ways
Establishes justice – by assigning praise and blame, to reward the good and punish the guilty.

Morality is not just a good thing; it is indispensable for human survival.

How do you live a moral life in an immoral society?

 The life of Joseph:

Sold into slavery at 16
10 years as Potiphar’s slave then household overseer
Jailed for more than 3 years
He was cut off from his family, his people and his religion

Joseph knew who he was:

“How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

Joseph knew who he was, because he knew WHOSE he was.

Joseph life’s purpose was to enhance God’s reputation wherever he was:

Pothiphar’s house
In the dungeon
In the palace before Pharaoh

To enhance God’s reputation.

How do you maintain a moral life style living in an immoral society?

Joseph lived his life before an audience of one.

Three societies in relation to morality.

Heteronomous society:
